The new 2012 Kia Sportage is spacious and comfortable.
It is known as the best compact crossover if you’re in the market for your first SUV and want one that’s stylish, fast and affordable. This year Kia will introduce the first full model year for the turbocharged Kia Sportage SX. The SX model adds over 270 horsepower to put you at the wheel of one of the quickest ride in it’s class. It is expected to be available around mid-year of 2011 with only minimal design changes if any.
The Sportage lineup will return with it’s Base, EX, SX, and LX models.

Along with all the great standard features, optional features of this crossover will include leather seats, dual-pane panoramic glass roof, keyless ignition, and heated front seats.
The 4 cylinder Kia Sportage is offered with either all-wheel drive (AWD) or front-wheel drive systems. The trims basic, EX, and LX versions are equipped with a 2.4L engine and 172 horsepower. The Base model will come with front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission.
The 2012 Kia Sportage comes well equipped with an array of safety features, including:
- Side-impact airbags
- Side-curtain airbags
- Traction control
- Stability control
- Four-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.
The Sportage’s wheelbase will remain at 103.9-inches so it’ll easily accommodate four to five adults in the rear seat. Some of the changes you will notice will be such things as additional exterior lighting and larger wheels as you move up to the next best model in the lineup. Also new on the 2012 Sportage is a uniquely designed half-necklace of LED daytime running lights. Thus far, they have been exclusive to the Sportage EX model only and at this point Kia has not yet revealed it’s Sportage SX styling package. It is expected though that the SX will also be jeweled.
The 2012 Sportage Base model with its manual transmission and front-wheel drive is expected to be rated 21/29 mpg city/highway. Expect the 2012 Sportage LX and EX models to be rated 22/31 mpg with front-wheel drive and 21/28 with AWD. The Sportage SX’s extra turbo power should get ratings of around 21/30 mpg with front-drive, 20/27 with AWD.
Exact prices for the 2012 Kia Sportage won’t be made known until shortly before the vehicle’s hit dealer lots, but the compact SUV is positioned to be easy on the wallet.
Estimated price for the 2012 Kia Sportage Base model is $19,000. The base for the 2012 Sportage LX is going to be around $21,000 with front-wheel drive and $23,000 with AWD. Expect the 2012 Sportage EX to start around $24,000 with front-drive, and around $26,000 with AWD. As of now, Kia had released little information on the Sportage SX model. However, it is likely to feature some unique trim items inside and out, possibly extra-supportive front bucket seats, and perhaps special suspension tuning and tires. Estimated base price for the 2012 Sportage SX is $26,000 with front-wheel drive and about $29,000 with all-wheel drive.
